Rhode Island College Office of Continuing Education Incentive Courses
OTD is pleased to announce that Rhode Island College’s Office of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions has courses available which have been approved for incentive credit. Note: Please pay careful attention to payment and registration procedures for RIC OCESS courses as they differ from those for OTD courses listed below. OTD will not be processing registrations and payments for courses listed on the RIC OCESS website. Participants who wish to attend the RIC OCESS courses for incentive credit should forward only their CS365 incentive request forms to OTD.

| Psychology in the Workplace |

This highly interactive course is designed for anyone wishing to explore and enhance their understanding of how psychology impacts behavior in the workplace, as well as how it affects our workplace experiences and interactions. During the course we will examine:
- The role of the individual in the organization including: performance, individual differences, motivation, perceptions and learning
- The role of groups in the organization including: teams, communication, decision making and leadership
- The role of the organizational context including: structure, culture, power and change
At the end of the course, you will be able to describe, and have a better understanding of, organizational behaviors and psychological concepts in multiple situations. In addition, you will have strengthened your interpersonal and conceptual skills which will enable you to analyze complex situations and respond effectively to workplace challenges.

In this 15-hour course, you will learn how using PowerPoint effectively can greatly add to your presentations and help accomplish your goals. Have your information stand out by learning how to create slides, add text, pictures, colors and design, transitions and set timings. We will work with slide master and design templates, and create enhanced graphical objects, charts, tables, and slide animation. In this practical, hands-on course you will be given the tools to design a professional PowerPoint presentation. Out-of-class assignments will be given to practice application of the material covered. Participants requesting incentive credit must have PowerPoint on their computer and must be currently using, or planning in the near future to use PowerPoint.

Learn the basics of this powerful and popular spreadsheet program. Create formulas, graphs and linked spreadsheets; copy and paste within and between spreadsheets; and learn many more features in the easy-to-use Excel environment. Knowledge of Windows is needed.

This exciting course will help you to create or modify a publication. You will learn how to add and edit text; insert, delete or move pages; formatting techniques using symbols and indenting; spacing between paragraphs; format and crop picture, wrap text around picture and insert Word Art; and you will create a newsletter, a web page and a web site. You should have adequate Word experience to feel comfortable with this new program. Participants taking this course for incentive credit must be currently planning, or planning in the near future, to design newsletters or web pages.

In this 15-hour course, you will learn the basic features of this powerful database program. You will learn how to search existing databases and how to create new databases; and how to design tables, forms, queries and reports. This class is designed for those who are currently using Access, but have had no prior training in Access, and for those who are in the process of designing (not just using) a new database. You will be creating a database as a hands-on focus of this class. As much information is covered in this class, out-of-class assignments will be given to practice application of the material. Participants must have Access on their computer and must be currently using, or planning in the near future to use Access.

Payment & Registration:
1. Personal checks should be made out to ILSR (Institute for Labor Studies and Research) and mailed, with your registration form, to OTD.
2. To pay by credit card:
a. Call ILSR (463-9900) and provide them with your credit card information. Be sure to tell them which course you are paying for. They will notify OTD that you have paid for the course.
b. You must still register for the course with OTD, by sending or faxing your registration form to us.
3. If a state agency is paying, you must submit a Centralized Pay Summary Report showing the invoice number to be referenced for final payment, along with your registration form. A Centralized Pay Summary Report and your registration form, must be sent to OTD to reserve a seat in the course you want.
4. A registration form must accompany your payment - download available at the top of this website.
NOTE: Registration or CS365 forms received without payment will not reserve a seat in the class.
Incentive Credit:
For state employees interested in incentive credit, all rules regarding each employee s eligibility will apply. For example, the course must be "directly related to the employee s job duties" and be the appropriate level for those duties. CS365 forms requesting incentive approval must be received by OTD 7 days prior to the start of the course. Each course must be at least 15 hours. If you do not receive verification from OTD that your incentive credit request has been approved, it is your responsibility to check the status of your request, and insure that OTD receives it.
