OTD is pleased to announce that Rhode Island College’s Office of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions has courses available which have been approved for incentive credit. Visit the RIC OCESS website www.ric.edu/cess to view current and future course offerings.
Note: Please pay careful attention to payment and registration procedures for RIC OCESS courses as they differ from those for OTD courses listed below. OTD will not be processing registrations and payments for courses listed on the RIC OCESS website. Participants who wish to attend the RIC OCESS courses for incentive credit should forward only their CS365 incentive request forms to OTD.

| All in a Day’s Work: Maintaining and Improving Customer Relations |

This course is designed to assist you to meet the challenges of providing excellent customer service when addressing customer needs. Attention will be given to such factors as attitude, communication skills, serving people with a variety of disabilities, and resource development. Through role play activities and discussion, you will build upon your current customer service skills and learn to effectively deal with challenging interactions. Note: You may not take this course for incentive credit if you have previously received an incentive credit for Quality Customer Service.

NEW
Advanced Workplace Writing |

Now that you know the sins of grammar and how to write clearly and concisely, Advanced Workplace Writing will continue to enhance your writing skills in a more advanced, workshop-driven class. You will write more advanced letters, an actual report using source material, minutes, agendas, and summaries. More difficult grammar and mechanics concepts will be introduced. Peer-review will be utilized, and you are encouraged to bring to class your own workplace samples to improve. Assessment will be an in-class writing assignment during the last hour of the last class. Much of this class will be spent writing! Pre-requisite: Effective Writing or Effective Writing for Professionals

| Psychology in the Workplace |

This exciting course will explore how psychology impacts behavior in the workplace, and how it affects our work experiences and interactions. We will examine:
- The role of the individual in the organization including: performance, individual differences, motivation, perceptions and learning
- The role of groups in the organization including: teams, communication, decision making and leadership
- The role of the organizational context including: structure, culture, power and change
At the end of the course, you will better understand and be able to describe organizational behaviors and psychological concepts in multiple situations; and you will have strengthened your interpersonal and conceptual skills, which help you to analyze complex situations and respond effectively to challenges.
This highly interactive class is designed for women and men, supervisors and non-supervisors. Team and class interactions are an integral part of this class. Homework assignments and readings will stimulate your thoughts and enhance your understanding of workplace behavior.

| Microsoft Access Power User |

This course is designed to take you to the next level in MS Access design. Learn more advanced techniques in creating Tables, Forms and Queries. Create reports with QBE in the background for easy report design. Students will be encouraged to bring in projects that they are working on, to share techniques for development. Students must be proficient in MS Access basic design skills for tables, queries, forms and reports.

| Microsoft Access Fundamentals & Design |

In this 15-hour course, you will learn the basic features of this powerful database program. You will learn how to search existing databases and how to create new databases; and how to design tables, forms, queries and reports. This class is designed for those who are currently using Access, but have had no prior training in Access, and for those who are in the process of designing (not just using) a new database. You will be creating a database as a hands-on focus of this class. As much information is covered in this class, out-of-class assignments will be given to practice application of the material. Participants must have Access on their computer and must be currently using, or planning in the near future to use Access.

Learn more Word features including templates, online forms, tables of content, editing comments, tracking changes, desktop publishing features and macros. Learn shortcuts and tips that will increase your productivity. You should be a Word user who feels comfortable with the basics.

Payment & Registration:
1. Personal checks should be made out to ILSR (Institute for Labor Studies and Research) and mailed, with your registration form, to OTD.
2. To pay by credit card:
a. Call ILSR (463-9900) and provide them with your credit card information. Be sure to tell them which course you are paying for. They will notify OTD that you have paid for the course.
b. You must still register for the course with OTD, by sending or faxing your registration form to us.
3. If a state agency is paying, you must submit a Centralized Pay Summary Report showing the invoice number to be referenced for final payment, along with your registration form. A Centralized Pay Summary Report and your registration form, must be sent to OTD to reserve a seat in the course you want.
4. A registration form must accompany your payment - download available at the top of this website.
NOTE: Registration or CS365 forms received without payment will not reserve a seat in the class.
Incentive Credit:
For state employees interested in incentive credit, all rules regarding each employee s eligibility will apply. For example, the course must be "directly related to the employee s job duties" and be the appropriate level for those duties. CS365 forms requesting incentive approval must be received by OTD 7 days prior to the start of the course. Each course must be at least 15 hours. If you do not receive verification from OTD that your incentive credit request has been approved, it is your responsibility to check the status of your request, and insure that OTD receives it.
